Jonah is 13 years old, and he experiences the world differently

School is confusing. Friendships feel unpredictable. The rules everyone else seems to understand… don’t always come naturally to him.

Inside his mind, Jonah imagines a vivid world of strange and powerful creatures, reflections of the thoughts, fears, and questions he can’t always explain out loud.

As he tries to navigate middle school, fit in with his peers, and make sense of social situations, Jonah finds himself caught between two worlds - the one everyone else lives in, and the one he experiences.

The In Between Kid is a heartfelt and deeply human middle grade novel about autism, seen through the eyes of an autistic boy trying to understand where he belongs.

Reviews

This is not just a book -it is an important contribution to understanding autism and learning to see the beauty in children who experience the world a little differently. As a grandmother of an autistic teenager, I found so many similarities between the behaviours described in the book and those of my own grandson. At times it felt as if parts of his world were being gently explained to me. This book helped me better understand him, his sensitivities, his way of thinking, and his unique way of experiencing the world.

This book is a MUST READ! One of the best things about this book is how real it feels. Many of us, especially kids and teens, can relate to feeling invisible or caught between family, or even friends. The author does a great job showing the character’s emotions and all he goes through in his daily life. The story sends an important message to all! Her writing is meaningful, which makes it a good choice for middle school readers and also parents wanting to better understand the struggle that sometimes is unseen. It is a heartfelt and inspiring book! Grab your copy today!

This book is a must read for parents and professionals who are privileged to know and work with children who are Neurodivergent ( Dx of Autism). As a Speech/Language Pathologist, this book was engaging, enlightening and spot on. Dana is a talented author and her son, Jehonatan (Jonah) sounds like an amazing young man.
